Exercise + Nutrition = Healthy Lifestyle
Simple Steps To A Healthier Lifestyle?
Today, many people pick and choose whether they want to exercise to be healthy or eat well to be healthy; but the fact is you need both to truly be healthy. Committing to one or the other has several down sides that you should be aware of. For some people it's easier going to gym than turning down that tasty slice of chocolate cake but that may be a counter intuitive step into your healthy lifestyle goals. For others it may be easier to eat lettuce rather than get up of the couch. Here are some tips to working both into your schedule to reach your healthy lifestyle goals.
Why is only exercising ultimately bad for you?
The only reason people exercise is because they want to stay in shape and lose weight. Which is a great start to their weight loss journey but without the proper nutritional guidelines exercise may not be enough. Here are some pros of exercise and some information on how the lack of proper nutrition can inhibit your healthy life style goals.
PROs:
- It makes you feel happier
- It may help with weight loss
- It is good for your muscles and bones
- It can increase your energy levels
- It can help your skin health
- It is good for brain and memory health
Now these are all true of exercise. Which makes sense that people think that exercising alone can be a great option. But without having the nutritional and food energy to help support you during exercise you actually will lose less calories than if you ate something before your workout. Without that fuel your body will become exhausted and energy depleted. You should always eat something before you workout.
In addition, from eating food to fuel your workout, its important you eat what you know is good for you and helps optimize your healthy lifestyle. After a workout I know how easy it is to want to eat all the calories you just burned and then some. But this is counterproductive! Do not do this. Your goals will be extremely hard to reach if you don't pay attention to your food energy intake and what foods are best for you.
Why is only eating healthy ultimately bad for you?
Food is fuel od is fuel for the body. If you are only paying attention to what you are eating and not exercising it can be unhealthy for your body. Eating less calories than you burn will result in weight loss but not a healthy lifestyle. Exercising builds your muscles, makes you stronger and ultimately feel better.
PROs:
- Reduce the risk of some diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, stroke, some cancers, and osteoporosis
- Reduce high blood pressure
- Lower high cholesterol
- Improve your well-being
- Improve your ability to fight off illness
- Improve your ability to recover from illness or injury
- Increase your energy level
These are great benefits to nutrition, and good nutrition means your body is getting everything it needs to work its best. The fact is though even if your body has all that it needs if you are working it to its best you are gaining it. And by it I mean weight. Like I said before if you eat less calories than you burn you will lose weight, but it goes both ways. Even though you may be eating healthy you may not be burning off what you are consuming.
How both will improve your life and help you achieve your healthy life style goals?
So now we have gone through the reasons why exercising is great for you and eating healthy is great for you also. But without committing to both you put yourself at risk of taking steps backwards rather than toward your healthy lifestyle goals. More is better than less do both feel better combine the benefits and get healthy!
